When we think of that perfect holiday, what most of us really want is not the ribbon or the holly or the cookies but the experience of our family together, the sense of peace and wholeness, the joy. Reflect for a moment on the experiences or relationships that bring you the most joy.
Are these moments quiet moments, where you are in nature, watching a bird soar above you? Or are your moments people moments, like when you share a laugh with a close friend, or hold a grandchild? Or are your moments ones that come from your senses, the smell of coffee or pine, the touch of a loved one’s hand, the sound of your favorite song coming on the radio, moving you to dance?
Could you seek out one such moment today? Find a time or place to soak in what you love about such a moment and enjoy it deeply. Remember the source of that joy. Teilhard de Chardin, a priest and writer put it this way: “Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.” Pray for the insight to recognize and relish the small moments of such joy as they come to you.
