Pass It On
Pass It On matches people who have needs with people who have the resources to meet those needs; for example, someone moving to a smaller home may have extra furniture that can help a family just starting out on their own. The Sweet Dreams Project of Pass It On raises funds to purchase beds and bedding. Over the years we have been able to help over 2600 families. Grant from 100 Women Making a Difference
Our Pass It On ministry was front page news in the Xenia Gazette this summer!
"XENIA — One Hundred Women Making a Difference in Greene County recently presented $10,200 to Pass It On, a ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church at 990 Old Springfield Pike, to buy beds for county families and children.
Pass it On has been matching donors of furniture with clients that need the furniture for the past eight years. More than 2,362 matches of donors and clients have been made so far.
In a newer project called Sweet Dreams, Pass it On supplies beds to individuals. In 2017, the project supplied more than 24 new twin and full beds, mostly for children. Pass It On does this through an agreement with Fairgrounds Furniture to buy the beds. Fairgrounds Furniture then provides free delivery to the clients.
The ministry also provides sheets, pillows, new children’s books and toys. Dayton Avenue Baptist Church and the women of Beavercreek Senior Center have also donated homemade quilts and blankets for the clients. ...."
Pass It On distributes beds from Greene Memorial Hospital
Pass It On was happy to help the hospital find people who could use these couches that turn into beds.
Pass It On got a call from a representative of Greene Memorial Hospital who said they had 43 couches that turn into twin beds. These were from the patient rooms and hospital officials wondered if the ministry wanted them. They also had several chairs to donate.
Ministry founder Marlene Elliott said yes even though Pass It On doesn’t have the space to receive or process such a large donation.
Thanks to Two Men and a Truck, which donated $700 worth of services, the furniture was picked up and brought to the ministry’s storage units. Pass It On also received a discount on the rental units from Stor-n-Lock.
The ministry received also received a donation of 15 pillow cases with sheets, blankets and pillows from Beavercreek resident Roberta Shiverdecker, who has supported the ministry since its inception.
Volunteers from Westminster Church — including Jimmy and Sandy Smith, David and Cyndi Fevang, Kevin Wheatley, and Pastor Melissa Tidwell — worked together for two days, distributing the 43 couch/beds.
Church members are encouraged to contribute books for the children who receive beds through the Sweet Dreams project. Volunteers are also needed to help with coordinating the Pass It On efforts.
