What is your service like?
Our worship service starts at 10:15 and sometimes lasts just a bit longer than one hour. We sing hymns and listen to scripture. We confess our need for God and hear the good news that in Christ we are forgiven, loved and free. We have a special lesson for our children and a sermon for the grown-ups. (Some of the grown-ups say they like the children’s lesson best.)
Do I need to dress up? Not so much. A few of our members still wear suits and ties to church and a few of us wear jeans. We are unstuffy and informal.
Do you have a place for my children? Yes, a place in the building and in the service. Our nursery worker, Nancy Jean, has loved our kids for over 30 years. She will be happy to care for your little ones during worship. We have Sunday school at 9:15. At the children’s lesson during worship, we invite children to come forward to sit on the steps and hear a lesson from the pastor. You can come forward with your child if he or she needs a little reassurance.
What’s your music like?
We have a music director who can make our powerful organ shake the rafters on one of those great old hymns of the faith. We don’t have a band or sing much praise music; we are a tad more traditional. We love to sing and try to mix in many kinds of hymns, from modern to classical, old camp meeting hymns and gospel anthems.
When do you have communion?
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month and on some special occasions like Easter. We usually take communion by intinction, which means you come forward to take a piece of bread and dip it in the cup (there’s juice, not wine in the cup). Once in a while, we have communion in the pews with the tiny little glasses. Whatever the method we use to share the sacrament, you and your children are welcome to come to the table.
